Here is the final cover for Memoirs of a Spectrum Addict by Oliver Frey (original CRASH Magazine artist). Speccy Addict is a feature doc about the ZX Spectrum – and it’s now complete. Digital release is 02.07.17, with DVD and BluRay following shortly. If you order the signed BluRay you can still get your name in the film credits! – TODAY is the LAST DAY you can get your name in the film credits by ordering the signed BluRay film. Thank you.

Oooh, she looks beautiful running in full 4K. Film is now complete, and I’ve had lots of feedback from my testers, so just need a bit of time to administer “tweaks” and then we’ll be ready to rock. Yay. Etc.
Okay, Memoirs of a Spectrum Addict, the film about the ZX Spectrum computer, is powering along, good and strong. Latest news includes acquisition of film footage from Steve Wetherill (NODES OF YESOD, ROBIN OF THE WOOD), Mev Dinc (GERRY THE GERM, LAST NINJA 2), Roger Kean (CRASH) and Oliver Frey (CRASH); Oliver Frey is working on the film’s artwork, Clive Townsend (SABOTEUR) is creating in-game loading screens, Mark R. Jones (OCEAN) helped massively with hundreds of stills, yesterday I rebuilt the entire front-end of the film using haunting music from Rob Shedwick (DIGITAL FRONT) and today was spent in the sound studio recording voice-overs. Breathe. So, busy busy busy onwards and upwards!! ETA soon!!
Had a real cool time interviewing Andrew Hewson, owner of Hewson Consultants Ltd. I think this man needs no introduction, having published everything from Uridium, Exolon, Cybernoid, Avalon, Nebulus, Zynaps, Firelord….. need I go on?
Andrew was a great sport, witty, funny, regaling us with stories of his early books on machine code, through to unique anecdotes about everything from the tax man to working with Raf Cecco, Steve Turner and Dominic Robinson, amongst many others!
His son, Rob, is also heavily into the retro scene – please check out the following for his latest project:
Thank you Mr Hewson! It was a pleasure sir.
Had a great time meeting and interviewing Jim Bagley, of Cabal and Midnight Resistance fame. The first meeting was at Play Expo in Blackpool, where Jim – bless him – was exhausted from his motorbike and Play Expo adventures (he was Guest of Honour). We still had a great chat about some of the things to be covered in the interview.
We then met up in Jim’s hometown of Liverpool, for a fun interview (the longest we’ve ever done!) which was fascinating in itself with regards his Spectrum developments, his time at Special FX and working with Joffa, and Jim also gave an in-depth explanation concerning the creation of Dragon’s Lair on the ZX81 (for which he received an entry in the Guinness Book of Records!) – so for fans of that, we’ll be releasing it as a separate “mini-film” for those with a serious technical disposition. Thanks Jim. Onwards!! 🙂
Had the totally amazing opportunity to interview one of my all-time Spectrum heroes, the one and only RICK DICKINSON down in Cambridge. Rick, who designed the ZX81, ZX Spectrum, Sinclair QL, Spectrum+ etc etc etc was an absolute blast. A proper gent, full of brilliant anecdotes, wit and charisma, and a truly genius vision on design, and indeed the design of the ZX81, Spectrum, Sinclair QL etc. It was an awesome experience, and for a lifelong Speccy fan, an absolute dream. 🙂 Thanks to Rick for inviting me into his home, and to his charming wife who was also a star. I cannot WAIT to put this film together…!!
